Megan Gale for L'Oreal + OCRF

gale
Megan Gale is proud of her association with L'Oreal which is working to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

TO say Megan Gale is a busy woman is an understatement.

A face of David Jones, the designer of her Isola cossie collection, a Foxtel TV host and a recent re-signing to L’Oreal as a brand ambassador has kept the model on her well-heeled toes.

And while a mystery holiday with "my man" (Carlton footballer Shaun Hampson) is happening after the AFL season, Megan is pleased to be involved in a real issue.

And one that cuts to the heart of so many Australian women.

“I am so passionate about raising awareness about ovarian cancer and being armed with the proper statistics now, I can’t help but want to spread the world," Megan told news.com.au in an exclusive interview.

“As there is no early detection test it is imperative we, as woman, take note of any changes and early diagnosis gives everyone a much better chance of full recovery and survival.’’

Megan says ovarian cancer has been tricky to diagnose and feels she has a responsibility to get the message out there.

With L’Oréal Paris having just re-signed Megan as the brand’s face and ambassador in Australia – a big gig - part of that new relationship is supporting the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) along with the Australian Women’s Weekly.

"The OCRF’s vital research into ovarian cancer is an amazing cause that both I and L’Oréal Paris strongly believe in as it is a devastating and sometimes silent disease,” says Megan.

“For L’Oréal Paris, their partnership with the OCRF is very special and I'm honoured to be involved with their fight in any way I can.’’

While awareness of the disease has increased, ovarian cancer is still a ruthless, silent killer without an early detection program.

“Every year approximately 1,200 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and, in Australia, one woman dies of the disease every 10 hours,’’ adds Megan.

Megan says lending her face and her brand to a national outdoor ad campaign created to drive awareness and research donations.

“I haven’t had many people incredibly close to me diagnosed with cancer but boy, there are so many friends and work colleagues who have as it is something that does not, in any way, discriminate.’’

Megan stands alongside some of the world’s most beautiful and accomplished in the L’Oréal Paris dream team, including Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Jane Fonda, Aimee Mullins, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Eva Longoria, Doutzen Kroes, Barbara Palvin and Hugh Laurie.

"Sure, I am extremely thrilled to be continuing my role with L'Oreal Paris as it's an honour to represent a brand that constantly celebrates a woman's worth,” adds Megan.

“In these past two years we've achieved some wonderful things together and I feel proud to have been a part of that. And our ovarian cancer support is a great part of that.’’

Megan joined Australian ovarian cancer survivors in a High Tea feature for the Weekly – replicated with a star-filled High Tea in Centennial Park on Tuesday.

In the meantime Megan has race days, her bloke, the Vogue Fashion Night Out on September 5 and a swimsuit collection to look after.

“It’s funny, but I still go up to people on the beach who I see wearing anything from Isola (her swimwear collection) and I thank them for buying it,’’ laughs Megan.

“We are also speaking with Foxtel and looking at way to revamp Project Runway for another season and I am loving doing stuff on The Project as it takes me in to a commentary role, which I really love.’’

And with that, the woman who thrives on challenges is off to her next gig.

And to put a big "B" in the word busy ...

Megan Gale still a crowd pleaser with footy fans!

GLAMAZON Megan Gale has been voted queen WAG by footy fans.

Megan Gale

The stunning model was judged the most glamorous wife or girlfriend in the AFL in an exclusive Herald Sun/Fox Footy Fan Survey.

Gale, the girlfriend of Carlton's Shaun Hampson, was a runaway winner in the poll, attracting more than 29 per cent of the vote. She took 25 per cent of the vote to win the title last year.

Gale beat Alex Davis, the girlfriend of Collingwood gun Scott Pendlebury.

Ana Calle, the partner of Sydney Swan Josh Kennedy; Nadia Coppolino, fiancee of Geelong star Jimmy Bartel; and Brooke Kennedy, girlfriend of Richmond best and fairest winner Trent Cotchin, were also popular choices.

Bartel was again voted the AFL's sexiest player, maintaining a blue and white grip on the title once owned by former Geelong captain Cameron Ling.

North Melbourne's Majak Daw, Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson, evergreen Western Bulldog Daniel Giansiracusa and Carlton's Andrew Walker rounded out the top five.

In-form Hawthorn forward Jarryd Roughead was named the AFL player "punching most above their weight" in the relationship stakes.

Almost 40 per cent of fans gave Roughead, the partner of Sarah Dunn, the nod.

Pendlebury (15.5 per cent) and Carlton midfielder Chris Judd (13.1 per cent), husband to Rebecca Judd, also figured highly for the dubious honour.

More than 12,727 people voted for both the most glamorous WAG and most sexiest player polls as part of the survey.

L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival - Meet Megan Gale

Megan Gale is one of Australia’s most iconic, successful and best known models and personalities.  Her talent is multi-faceted and list of accomplishments outstanding… including celebrated work in modeling, fashion design, acting, television hosting and production.
Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Megan was first discovered when she won a modeling competition at age 18.  After several years of modeling in Australia, Megan catapulted to international fame when she was cast in a television commercial for Vodafone Italy and was selected as a face of Australia in Italy.

Megan has excelled in both the local and international modeling industry for more than 15 years.  She has worked both on the catwalk and in front of the camera, plus has recently embraced new challenges behind the camera also.  She has appeared on the cover of countless magazines, including marie Claire, Madison and Australian Women’s Weekly, and has modeled for numerous leading fashion houses both in Australia and abroad.

In recent years, Megan has regularly appeared on screen hosting a variety of television programs including Body Works, Getaway and What a Year. Megan is currently hosting Season 4 of Foxtel’s Project Runway Australia where she is also executive producer.

With a keen interest for acting, Megan has appeared in Italian feature films Vancanze di Natale, Bodyguards and Stregati Dalla Luna. I Love You Too was Megan’s first Australian feature film which was released in 2010. She has recently spent time in Africa filming Mad Max: Fury Road with Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

An all-round business woman, Megan also has her own swimwear range, Isola by Megan Gale, where her roles include creative director and designer.

Megan has also long prioritised her work with philanthropic organisations and charitable ventures designed to make the world a better place.  This is highlighted through her work with the Australian Red Cross, Kids Help Line and the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Once again, our amazing L’Oreal Paris Make-Up Director, Rae Morris - together with the hair team from L’Oreal Professional - have worked with LMFF to create the beautiful campaign imagery being launched tonight.   They will also be working hard to bring you the stunning looks you will see at the 7 L’Oreal Paris Runway Shows next year.

Opulence is the buzz word for 2013.   For Autumn/Winter, think beauty inspired by precious jewels and glamorous gems.   Beauty that indulges the senses… and looks expensive!   We see naturally-flawless skin matched with rich, sexy colour palettes for eyes, lips and nails.  From deep plum to burnt orange, navy blue to emerald green, beauty looks will be designed to bring old-school glamour, sophistication and femininity back to the runway.

Beyond the catwalk, L’Oreal Paris will again operate its beautiful Powder Room and we expect to have some 6,000 fashionistas pass through over the week.  This is always a fantastic opportunity for us to treat some of our most loyal consumers and through this activation, among others, we will give away approximately $1M in L’Oreal Paris products.

On a personal note  L’Oreal Paris would like to sincerely thank Laura, Graeme, the Festival board and staff for their hard work, dedication and passion… they somehow manage to better the festival every year even when no improvements seem possible!  L’Oréal Paris and Australian fashion have made glamorous partners on Melbourne’s runways for nearly 20 years and we again look forward to celebrating all the glamour and excitement that is the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2013.
