PRIMPED chats with Sophie Falkiner, the new Carmex spokespoerson about how she stays "so top-to-toe gorgeous".
PRIMPED: You’re the face of Carmex … So what are your top lip tips?
Sophie Falkiner: Apply a good lip balm every day as
part of your regular beauty regimen. I have been using Carmex lip balm
since my early teens, it’s a must for lip maintenance! Keeping well
hydrated is also really important for your lips and skin in general.
P: What’s your favourite Carmex buy and why?
SF: Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm
($8.99, from pharmacies) is my favourite Carmex buy at the moment … It
is so moisturising and is perfect to wear on its own, or over the top of
my lipstick, to add a hint of sheen. And it’s a bargain! I also always
carry a jar of Carmex Lip Balm ($5.99) – I adore the retro jar and its tingle!
P: Favourite lipstick?
SF: Anything in a bright fuchsia or a red hue. I have some great ones from M.A.C and Napoleon.
P: Lip gloss?
SF: M.A.C Lip Glass in Prrr or Lychee Luxe, $35 each, M.A.C.
P: Your biggest makeup splurge?
SF: I always buy a great foundation. Giorgio Armani and Chanel are two of my favorites base brands.
P: What are the best makeup tips and tricks you’ve picked up from shoots?
SF: Always blend makeup beautifully, and take a
mirror into natural light to check. Invest in a great brow wax and shape
– it will do wonders for your face. Less is more when it comes to
makeup as you age.
P: What are your favourite skincare buys?
SF: I’m obsessed with Skin Doctor’s Supermoist SPF30+ ($44.95, Skin Doctors). It’s hydrating, non-clogging and protects you from the sun and ageing. I also love their Gamma Hydroxy ($49.95) for sun spots and aging and their Youth Cell Eye Cream ($49.95) for hydration and ageing.
P: What’s your best skincare bargain?
SF: A bath brush from the supermarket. I like to dry
brush my skin, to get rid of dead skin cells and to aid circulation. It
keeps your skin in good shape.
P: And your biggest skincare splurge?
SF: The facial brush I use to clean my skin – the Clarisonic Mia ($149, Adore Beauty). It leaves skin squeaky-clean. Which is especially great after a full-day of heavy television makeup.
P: What’s next on your beauty shopping list?
SF: A trip to Thailand! My skin never feels better
than when I’m on holidays – no stress, little or no makeup, exercise and
sea water. I can’t wait!
P: What treatments do you indulge in?
SF: Not many – I’m pretty low-maintenance. I think I
can get great results from the products I have at home. I do love a
massage every now and then but I don’t have a lot of time for pampering.
Exercise is my real “me-time” and other than that, the odd mani/pedi
and the occassional foot reflexology. Which is pure bliss!
P: Do you have any other lifestyle tips for looking good?
SF: Eat well 80% of the time. Make sure you try to
eat food that is as unprocessed as possible. Include lots of good fats
in your diet like salmon, avocado, flaxseed oil and nuts. Take great
supplements like fish oil, probiotics and a multi for optimum health.
Try to work up a good sweat a few times a week it does wonders for your
skin. Smile, be grateful and focus on the positive in your life. Stress
ages you just as quickly as the sun.
P: What’s an example of your daily diet?
SF: Warm water and lemon juice in the morning.
Porridge with blueberries, LSA and a bit of manuka honey for breakfast. A
piece of fruit and almonds for morning tea. Lunch is a big chicken
salad with avocado, stacks of veggies and a homemade dressing. For a
snack: hummus with carrot and celery sticks. For dinner, it’s some kind
of lean protein, lots of green veggies and either another salad of some
sweet potato or quinoa. I also drink lots of water, dandelion tea,
normal tea and one soy latte a day. And there are a few bits of dark
organic chocolate here and there.
P: What are your favourite body products?
SF: Palmolive Body Butter Body Wash ($6.49, from supermarkets), Aurora Spa Rituals Wattleseed & Walnut Resurfacing Skin Cream ($62 Mecca Cosmetica), and Rosken Skin Repair Dry Skin Cream (from $2.90, from pharmacies).
P: And your signature scent?
SF: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb (from $99, from department stores)
P: Finally, your favourite:
Cocktail? I’m a sucker for a well-made Grey Goose martini with olives.
Label? I am loving all the cheap and fun Zara clothes I have been buying of late. I love a bargain!
Song to Sing in the Shower? I am super daggy and love my old ‘80s classics. Annie Lennox’s Sweet Dreams is one of my favorites to belt out.
